OHMYLAWD!!!!!!!!!!! MOST definitely a TOP read and a MUST READ.
I had a handful of anticipated releases for 2016, A Beautiful Funeral was one of the top 5 and it did not disappoint in the least. I devoured A Beautiful Funeral in approximately 6 hours. I was scared shit-less going into this book due to the fact that these are some of my favorite characters of all times, and the title only suggested one thing and it’s the one thing I did not want for ANY of these characters. They are my fucking family! You might as well call me MyMy Maddox!!
I went into it paranoid as fuck so every single little thing occurred or may occur had raised my anxiety to a very unhealthy level. I was practically holding my heart in my hand throughout most of this book because I was so fearful. I wasn’t even sure if my heart could handle it to the end. I was feeling everything each character was feeling. Love, betrayed, loss, hope, anger, and confusion… whatever emotions you can think of triple that shit and mix it all up because I was a HOT-FUCKING-MESS! I can’t tell you what I was feeling at a given moment, from one emotion to another or possibly all of them at once.
I was prepping myself up for this book for so long that the only thing I was battling in my head was who it should be to break my heart the least and truthfully it doesn’t matter who. My heart was already torn before starting ABF. I was so worried on this front that I completely was caught off guard that this story was written 10 years after the series. The Maddox boys are now men with adult issues and I will be damned! I love them more now than ever! It’s a fierce kind of love now for every single one of them! All the emotions were so raw and so real that it repeatedly shattered me.
This single book with less than 300 pages with multiple POVs of each chapter was incredibly written. One would think it may not be able to capture everything, but man oh man – this book is truly every fucking thing. I was a little concern that this may be one additional book to this series that may ruin the entire series for me. Because frankly, some series are way too long and it pretty much tanks the series as a whole. What can I say, A Beautiful Funeral was the 5th book in this series and for FUCK SAKE – Jamie McGuire, I bow down to you woman. ABF may have beaten me up, picked me up to throw me back down but at the same time stole my fucking heart! Torture is NOT the way, but if this is the kind of cruelty I need to take coming out of a story like ABF it is the kind of brutality I will keep crawling back to.
